Fig. 1  (1-50)

Dia. 1

Dia. 1 : Through 14 the game proves to be rather involved from the beginning. If White next plays 'a' then Black 'b' is a sure answer and through 'g', White will have to yield to Black's pressure, while Black can play 'h', an excellent point, attacking White's stone and extending his moyo. So White leaves the upper left corner and awaits Black's move.

Dia. 4

Dia. 4: Black 1 is a good move, When White captures with White 2, Black forces White to continue at' 4', by Black 3 and he will then extend to '5', This will be welcome to Black. If White 5 instead of '2' , Black will begin a fight by Black 'a'.

Dia. 5

Black 2 is very good, but through 17, White's wall is so solid that he could easily try uchikomi at delta.

Fig. 1. ( 1-50 )

Black 1, 3: Takagawa likes to play Tasukiboshi. ( diagonal 'hoshi' arrangement)
The opening through 16 is a normal fuseki. But at present, Black 9 is played at '13' without the exchange of '9' to '13'.

Black 17: If Black plays 29 in reply to White 16, then Go-Seigen would play the same way in the lower right corner, Black 17 indirectly helps '15' when attacked.

White 18: One of the alternatives for this move is White 1 in Dia. 1.

Dia. 2

Black 23: This is the crucial move which determines the direction of the game. If Black 'a' instead, then White will be satisfied with the sequence in Dia. 2, through' 4'.

Dia. 3

White 24: When 1 in Dia. 3, then through '16' White feels unsatisfactory because of Black's good upper position and of the solitary White stones on the left side.

Black 33: Cannot be Black 36. Then White 35, Black 34 and Whit will cut at 33 and there will be a chance for White to take '36' by '38'. White 38: Good. Better than White ‘b’: it would make Black 39 excellent.

Black 39: Better to play '47'. See Dia. 4

White 42: An alternative is to play White 1 in Dia. 5.

Black 45: Black was perplexed by White 44.

Dia. 6

Dia. 6: When Black moves sideways with '1', White can capture Black's four stones with White 2, 4. If Black 2 instead of '1', then White 'a' compels Black 'b' and then he presses Black by 'c'. Black will have a hard time on the upper side. Moreover, Black is threatened by White around ‘4’

Dia. 7

White 50: Strong move. White 1 in Dia. 7 might be normal and the sequence through '10' can be considered. Go-Seigen did not like to give a sure territory to Black.
