FRENCH GO TOURNAMENT by P.T. Manning
The first French Go Tournament was held in Paris from May 1st to 4th,
and attracted an entry of 40, including 8 Britons. Although advertised as a McMahon Tournament, it was run as a handicap Swiss in two divisions. The top division, for dan players, was won by Yasumi Takahashi, a Parisian Japanese. Paul Prescott (London) was the highest-placed Briton, coming 4th. The kyu players' division was won by
Andre Moussa of Paris, with 7 out of 8, while Toby Manning (Bristol) and Ron Learoyd, who does not regularly play at any club, were equal 4th with 5 wins. Ron was promoted from 5 to 4 kyu after the Tournament.
